Mess4ge: ESG Analysis Framework
The initial phase of our project involved Framework Analysis (T2.1), during which the partners examined six different ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks, namely SASB, IRF, CSRD/EFRAD, GRI, CPD, and UNPRI. The aim was to analyze these frameworks comprehensively and create a comparative table highlighting their key differences and similarities.
Additionally, partners conducted a landscape analysis to assess the status of ESG implementation in each of the participating countries in the MESS4GE project, namely Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Spain. This analysis provided valuable insights, and the data collected was used to construct another comparative table, encompassing:
- The primary ESG framework adopted by each country.
- The number of companies in each country that produce sustainability reports, along with the proportion of these being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- The primary challenges faced by companies in each country when it comes to sustainability reporting.
- Measures implemented by national governments to promote sustainability reporting.
- The presence of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) networks within each country.
Furthermore, as part of this phase, each partner organization analyzed two sustainability reports generated by local SMEs.
Upon analyzing all the above information, it was discovered that there is a relatively low percentage of SMEs actively reporting on sustainability matters in the European countries participating in our project. Notably, the most frequently utilized frameworks for these reports were GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and SASB.
As a significant part of this project phase, we have developed training activities that will be presented to trainees during our upcoming Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) in Milan.
