EU Week of Waste Reduction – Benefits for SMEs
ESG reporting is an important initiative for SMEs, as in the upcoming years a large number of SME will be required to report on their Environmental, Social and Governance performance and risks.
MESS4GE focuses on the promotion of ESG reporting by SMEs and puts forth a comprehensive roadmap designed to initiate targeted actions and collect relevant data, ultimately enhancing the ESG performance of SMEs.
The EU Week for Waste Reduction provides an excellent opportunity to suggest measures for enhancing the environmental performance of SMEs.
Here are some straightforward actions to be that can be implemented in companies of any size:
Start a compost facility at the office to prevent organic waste to end in the mixed waste bin.
Reduce packaging waste by promoting reusable items (reusable coffee mugs, lunch boxes). Create a check list with all commitments and evaluate the process by the number of goals achieved.
Reduce paper consumption in the company: identify sources of paper consumption (where, when, how, why) and find ways to overcome this, determine the main types of paper used, assess initial consumption, measure consumption every month or every three months, keep the data for your ESG report.
Waste sorting: train employees on how to separate waste, buy different colors of dust bins for every waste category and measure waste per category.
Raise staff’s awareness about the benefits of composting, reducing package waste and waste sorting.
All of the above actions can lead to gather data for ESG reports!
